OVERVIEW

Kaplan Gehring McCarroll Architectural Lighting, Inc. (KGM) is a Los Angeles based design firm established in 1985, providing lighting design services to numerous market sectors worldwide.

KGM approaches each project as a collaborative effort involving the other members of the design team, encouraging creative lighting solutions. This is accomplished by fully understanding the architectural concepts and design criteria, evaluating various possible design solutions, and ultimately developing the lighting scheme that is most advantageous. Factors taken into consideration include; project schedule, budget, constructability, energy efficiency and long-term maintenance. Dramatically enhanced appearance and visual comfort are additional benefits of good lighting design.

Ongoing collaboration with the team during the design process enables lighting to actually become integrated into the architecture, adding beauty and strength to the overall design of the project. One major advantage of integral lighting is cost savings. With this approach, readily available, low-cost equipment can make a light fixture of the space itself. Decorative lighting fixtures, which can be costly, take on a supporting role and can be used sparingly to add sparkle where appropriate, and to define space.

KGM’s staff is comprised of numerous design professionals, many of whom are licensed architects, and knowledgeable administrative support. An in-house computer network provides internet access for sending and retrieving electronic information, performing photometric studies, creating full color images of proposed lighting effects, developing AutoCAD 2006 documents and FTP capabilities.

One of KGM’s more important attributes is the ability to create unique lighting environments while maintaining compliance with Title 24, California’s stringent energy code. Equipment selections are based on their relative fitness for an intended purpose at a particular price point. On-site inspections during construction are customarily provided to verify compliance with the plans and specifications, and to resolve any outstanding issues that may arise.

Light is known to be an emotionally stirring medium, capable of dynamically transforming a daytime environment into an evening icon. It is in this spirit that KGM pursues the goal of creating unique environments, atmospheres and excellence in lighting.
